Coconut Husk Chips for Orchids & Aroids: 7 mm vs 10 mm
Coconut husk chips are chunky pieces of husk cut to size. They drain fast, hold some moisture inside each chip, and break down slowly — which is exactly what epiphytes like orchids, anthuriums and many aroids need.

Why husk chips instead of bark?
- Longer life — husk chips break down more slowly than many barks.
- Air and water together — large gaps between chips for air; the fibre inside each chip holds water.
- Renewable — made from coconut husk, a by-product of the coconut industry.
- Consistent — cut to a controlled size, so mixes behave the same batch after batch.
7 mm vs 10 mm chips
| Cut | Approx. size | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 7C | about 7 mm | Smaller pots, seedlings, mixing into potting soil, aroid mixes |
| 10C | about 10 mm | Orchids, anthuriums, larger pots, mulching and drainage layers |
How we make our chips
We buy husk from local suppliers, cut it into 7 mm or 10 mm chips, and sun-dry it on our yard before packing. Because we run this step ourselves, we control the cut size, the moisture and whether the chips are washed or buffered.

Washed or buffered chips?
Like cocopeat, husk chips can carry salts. For sensitive orchids and hydroponic use, ask for washed or buffered chips.
Packing options
- Loose in bags
- Compressed 5 kg blocks — easier to ship LCL
- On a mixed pallet with cocopeat or grow bags
